Shell Visual Manifestations

Design: Shell Design Department

Printed manuals with detailed guidelines for the application of a corporate design were published from the 1960s onward. This handbook, developed by Shell in London in 1955, is probably one of the earliest examples. Some documents contained in it suggest that it was distributed in small numbers to regional branches of the oil company and repeatedly updated until 1966. It contains mandatory rules for the uniform appearance of service stations and vehicles.
